Running Tip 5

Dear Friends, Greetings! Also a very Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all Indian friends!  There has been a very good response from many of you considering the number of hits to my running tips. Thank you very much. I believe some of you might have started running and prepared a kind of running schedule for yourself. If not also no worries, take your time.  Running Tip 5 - What diet to follow? Often I keep getting queries from my colleagues and fellow runners on the diet I follow. Nowadays everything has become very systematic and measured. All gyms define a daily or weekly diet for each of their clients. They even measure the calories consumed and calories burned. It is one way good. Also there are many articles you can get on internet and print media related to diet and calorie charts for runners and other sportsman. But I belong to old school of thought - "Eat well, burn well". I don't follow any particular regimen as far as diet is concerned. But I am disci...

Running Tip 4

Dear Friends, Greetings! I believe some of you have started running after reading my last tip. If not also no hurries! no worries! take your sweet time. I have received few good feedback from my reader friends. One of them is to make my blog visual, at present it is only text. I agree with him, it is tough to hold the attention of readers for long with only text. But my limitation is whatever I am writing here is more about my experience, more about the feelings I underwent in my running journey so far. So at present I don't have any clue on how to represent my experiences or feelings through visual means. But I will definitely give a try. Running Tip 4 -  Getting into a daily running schedule Just to recall my last tip, getting started comprised three steps - warm-up, go for a short run and warm-down. Warm-up and Warm-down are compulsory ones, if you can do the stretches provided in the video it would be more than sufficient. Coming to running, in last tip, I had suggeste...

Running Tip 3

Dear Friends, Greetings and Happy Independence Day to all Indian readers!  I hope some of you might have come up with your objective for running and some of you might have got your running kit also ready. If not done, no hurries, take your own time. Come back any time to refer to the tips 1 and 2.  Before going on to my tip 3 which will make you get started, I would like to put a disclaimer - The tips I will be providing from here on are simple ones and easy to do for a normal person. But if you have any medical condition like breathing problems, physical weakness, cardio issues or any other challenges I suggest you to consult your doctor or physiotherapist before beginning your running journey. Get all the doubts in your mind cleared by your doctor before hitting the track. I will be using the disclaimer as a P.S. from the next tip onward.  Running Tip 3 - Getting Started With this tip, you can get into the action i.e. start running. However the act...

Running Tip 2

Dear Friends, Greetings!  Yesterday I started publishing my series of running tips on this blog page. It is good to see more than 100 visits for "Running Tip 1". If few of the visitors start making use of the tip and switch to fitter and active lifestyle through running, it will make me more than Happy.  I believe you have your objectives clear on running. If not also no hurry, take your time, give thought about it before getting yourself ready :). The early birds who are raring to go, let's get to the second running tip.  Running Tip 2 - Get your running gear In general, running is the least complex sport when it comes to equipment and clothing. You might have heard people saying, all you need is making up your mind and start moving your body :). During morning times, I can see many people running bare foot, wearing casual clothes. I have seen many women running wearing salvar and chudidars. I wholeheartedly appreciate their spirit and effort. In ad...

Running Tip 1

Dear Friends, Greetings! Though I am a software professional, since the advent of this decade I have turned myself into a amateur long distance runner. The hobby which started in September 2009 for losing a layer of fat around my hips and belly slowly turned into a passion which propelled me into participating road running events. I started with 5KM in 2011, then promoted myself to 10KM next year, taking a level up to Half Marathon in 2013 and ultimately reached a level of completing my first marathon in 2015. It is a very interesting and satisfying journey for me. I keep watching Facebook posts of my friends also who like me have turned into an amateur or hobby runner. It is a very good trend as running enhances the stamina, increases the fitness levels and promotes healthy lifestyle for the person who has opted for it. With the vision of increasing awareness and promoting the trend of running I have planned to publish few running tips for the beginners through this blogger. I ...

Joe Root scripts the reversal of fortunes for England

Hi Friends, Greetings! Let me begin with a disclaimer - I am a big fan of Test Cricket and the English summer is the most favorite period of the year for me since 2003. That was my beginning year of earning and that was the time when I had moved out of home/hostel environment for the first time. I was sharing house with couple of like minded friends, we had subscribed to Cable TV and had the privilege of watching sports channels in leisure. Since then July-Sep is my favorite period in an year to watch Test cricket happening in England. 2003 was the year when ICC World Cup happened in first quarter of the calendar year. Usually whenever the World Cup happens we can expect lot of changes aftermath in the participating teams especially the losing ones. South Africa who hosted the World Cup had crashed out in the first round itself. There was change in captaincy. A young 22 year old promising cricketer was given the mantle and he led his team for his first tour to England. The start...

Mo Farah's final hurrah and my new identity

Hi Friends, Greetings! Mo Farah, one of the greatest athletes in the world today, extended his dominance with another Gold medal winning performance at IAAF World Championship 2017 in the 10000M (10KM) category on the event's inaugural day itself. It was his 10th consecutive gold medal in a global track final and this London event will be his final championship appearance as a track runner. He has one more category 5000M to compete in this event before bidding adieu to track running to concentrate on road running events. What an amazing athlete he has been! The Briton clocked the timing of 26:49:51 which is 3 minutes more than his personal best but still he could finish as the best in the championship proves his dominance. Congratulations Farah! For me the timing 26:49:51 means just 4 km as I finish 10K run in not less than 58 minutes. But for an amateur runner like me it is a good timing only as I can't afford to train like a pro. But long distance running has given me ...
